Buffer image. Keep in mind that politics mean nothing for Toby
Oof. When are liberals going to turn on Warren over this? To me, it looks like she hunted for 2 years to find something she can throw in Trump’s face. It does not shock me that the multimillionaire socialist is a blond white lady pretending to be an indigenous person.

“ Kim Tallbear, Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate, is the Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Peoples, Technoscience & Environment and Associate Professor at the faculty of Native Studies at the University of Alberta. She is the author of “ !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .”
In an email to Indian Country Today, she made the analogy of the ancestry of Elizabeth Warren as Michael Myers in the Halloween films. “It just won’t die,” she wrote.
Tallbear also references her series of tweets on Native American DNA and the faulty connections to Native ancestry. She also had an in depth !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! in which Tallbear said specifically: “People think that there’s a DNA test that can prove if somebody is Native American or not. There isn’t.””
Ouch. Bad move, oligarch socialist.

You seem to have this extremely wrong. She has a story in her family about a N ative American ancestor. After being repeatedly challenged and mocked about by the P resident she did a test that supports the notion. No, it does prove it conclusively (because you can’t do that with this sort of testing). However, everything looks as you’d expect if her story is true.

I for one, havn’t been able to stomach the national party for quite some time now. It’s one of the reasons I was a huge Bernie supporter (besides the fact I voted to send him to Washington in the first place as am independent with a mandate to fuck with the status quo). The party “leadership” is nearly as crazy as as the Trumpist Republicans, just in a way thats probably slightly better for the well-being of the people (as opposed to wealthy people only) of this country. I’m sick and tired of voting for the lesser of two evils, but as long as one is decidedly worse (which it is), I feel obligated to continue supporting the less-worse option.
I just wish there were more truely good options.
I feel that in this age of 24 hour news cycles, personal attacks by politicians and internet-fuled ultra-tribalism the two party system is really failing us badly. I wish this country had a history or parlimentary coalition-style governemnt that allowed real deviation from the Donkeys and the Elephants to not only exist, but be a successful part of the policy-making and socio-economic makeup of our government.

I don’t understand the controversy. She claims her family has maintained in stories passed down that they have a Native ancestor. This appears to be true. She hasn’t presented herself as anything other than a white woman with a distant native ancestor. The Boston Globe did an excellent piece on her record as a student an lawyer. I’m not seeing anything untoward here.
It’s also worth keeping in mind that this made up controversy is coming from a birther...

America need a self destruct button, then start over.
Start with the metric system, then universal healthcare....

I don’t think this is going to be leaving her any time soon, especially since her claimed ancestry is only “between 1/64 and 1/1024".
Any Rs running against her are going to have a field day with this, and any Ds supporting her will attempt to sweep it under the rug. Nothing new in that regards.
This is absolutely a Trump victory, and a hilarious one at that.

TBH, this isn’t worth our energy .
In all fairness tho, she held up her end of the bargain.

They’re all entrenched, and focused only on maintaining their positions of power and wealth. We need a massive reset, there is no doubt.

ive been listening to the local rock radio station and they have been having a good time with this one. They were saying she is 1/1024th which would be 1 0 generations ago.

She’s going Nancy Pelosi crazy. We need to take all the super right wing nut jobs and all the super left wing nut jobs, put them in the thunder dome and let them fight each
other with their inflated egos.

This is a great distraction from the worst regime in American history. And it catches 45 on another lie, which means today is a day ending in “y”. But hey, the markets are hot even if normal working people are reaping nearly none of the rewards, so it’s cool.
Meanwhile, prince Ja red and princess Feckless continue to have influence, and the Saudis, Russians, and various fashies will continue to be coddled.
The use of “socialist” also speaks volumes here.

It does not shock me that the multimillionaire socialist is a blond white lady pretending to be an indigenous person.
Couple things here:
1. Skin color and class standing have absolutely nothing to do with a person’s ancestry, especially in small percentages.
2. As far as I know, she’s not “pretending to be an indigenous person”, she is only claiming to have some Native American ancestry. She’s not adopting the clothing or speech or making wild claims about how she’s blessed by a ancestral medicine man or something stupid like that.
Overally, it doesn’t sound different than me claiming to have some German
ancestry, even though I don’t have blond hair and blue eyes, and I don’t wear lederhosen or speak german. In the end, no one cares as long as I’m not actively insulting the people who live in Germany
.
Honestly, I think it’s far more troubling
to have a president insulting her and calling her “Pocahontas” than her having a potentially unprovable claim of having a Native American ancestor.

This, I feel is the real impetus behind this mo ve, that and stuborn belief in her own correctness and the wrongness of Trump... I at least hope the charity but was the stronger driver, but I have little real faith.

I don’t know what’s worse, Elizabeth Warren pretending to be Native American, or people pretending to give a shit about Native Americans because they don’t like Elizabeth Warren.
Both scenarios seem pretty fucking stupid.
For those interested, mitochondrial DNA analysis has been used to link living people with their native ancestors. Tribes in the US have even made territorial claims based on some of this analysis. Kim Tallbear is a social scientist, not a geneticist, and is speaking on the social impacts of people who have grown up culturally “white” trying to claim they are indigenous. She also doesn’t speak of native peoples, and to assume her opinion represents that of native peoples throughout the Americas is just plain ignorant.
There are a lot of pressing issues facing indigenous people throughout the Americas, none of which are addressed in this article. But yeah, fuck rich white people pandering to other rich white people (regardless of political associations).

To top off all of this,
there is a real push by some tribes to disenfranchise
existing members and make it very difficult to become a new member. The issue is very complex,
complicated, and sad
.
I
agree with you, it’s very likely that she has native ancestors
. She is not claiming to be a tribal member, just providing evidence that what she said was not a lie. But the truth doesn’t seem to matter any more so she will just get slammed and ground into nothing by the fake news lobby.

I am a middle class white dude who grew up on the rez in Montana, I subvert all questions regarding native issues to actual Native Americans. I cannot
even to begin to pretend I understand their particular situation, which continues to be awful and saddening.
It’s very likely that many of us who have ancestors in the continental US for the last 100-200 years
have native american ancestry
and African
ancestry.
I do find it interesting and fun to research however it is not something that any of us raised “white” should even begin to use as a bargening chip to associate orselves with any particular race to pretend we understand their plight.
